Materials
- Cardboard
- A4 sheet
- Paper cups
- Marker
Instructions For Marvellous Maths Build Your Towers Activity
- On a A4 sheet, write down different numbers pairs.
- Keep the cardboard and cups ready.
- Based on the number pair, encourage your child to read out the numbers and place the paper cups on top of another to form a tower. (Refer to video)
- Encourage them to observe the tallest of the two towers.
- Encourage them to draw the ‘greater than’ or ‘lesser than’ symbol against the respective number on the sheet.
Learning the right usage of the symbol wasn’t so hard, was it?
After writing down the symbol, encourage your child to dismantle the towers before starting with the next pair of numbers. You may also make use of other household items to up the game of finding the greater than and lesser than numbers.
Learning through action is a fun way of learning, which also improves your child’s cognitive abilities. When they build the towers, their numeracy and fine motor skills are enhanced.
