Materials
- Bowls
- Water
- Baking soda
- Food colouring
- Vinegar
Instructions for Ice World Adventure Fizzy Magic Activity
- Pour water into a bowl and add some baking soda.
- Stir in some food colouring.
- Keep the bowls in the freezer to set.
- Once set, empty coloured ice onto a tray.
- Pour some vinegar on the coloured ice and watch it fizz!
Science behind it
Did you have fun watching the ice fizz? Would you like to know why that happened? When the vinegar and baking soda mix, a chemical reaction occurs. As a result of this chemical reaction, carbon dioxide is released. The bubbles you see when the ice fizzes is actually the carbon dioxide escaping. How cool is that!
This activity helps your child learn something that will be of help in science class. It also helps them explore through play. This activity may open up a whole new fascination with science!
