Well, let’s give them something to create and pretend play with the ice creams all around. Here is a clay play that’s sure to make it more colourful. Materials

  • Clay – different colours
  • Coloured paper
  • Ice cream sticks
  • Paper cups
  • A4 sheet
  • Sketch pen

Instructions for Market Fun Ice Cream Store Activity

  • Encourage your child to roll up a big chunk of clay and insert an ice cream stick. They are the ice cream bars.
  • Cut out a small piece of colour papered and roll into a cone. Apply glue and encourage your toddler to stick it. The cone is ready. Many them of different colours.
  • Encourage them to roll some clay and place it inside each cone.
  • Place the bars and the cones in two separate paper cups.
  • Make placards for each cup and write the names — ice cream bars and ice cream cones.
  • Assemble the placards next to the respective cups. You may add a name for the store too!

Let your toddler pretend to be the ice cream vendor who calls out: “Ice cream… ice cream…!” You pretend to be the customer. Use colour cues to help your child to pick out the ice cream of your choice. You may further make it more interesting by encouraging them to add different colour layers of ice creams.

As your toddler plays with clay, they are exposed to a unique sensory experience. Clay improves their dexterity and provides a good exercise to their fine motor muscles. Pretend play helps them communicate more.
