How does an astronaut travel to space? They use the help of a rocket, of course! Get set to make a rocket to help you travel to space right from your house. Materials
- Cardboard tubes
- Cardboard
- Sketch pen
- A pair of Scissors
- Glue/ Glue gun
- Chart
- Tape
- Aluminium foil
- Coloured papers – red, yellow
- Ribbon
- Cutter / Craft knife
Instructions for Space Adventure Rocket Jet Pack Activity
- On a cardboard sheet, draw and cut out a circle, which is of the same size as your cardboard tube.
- Stick the circle at one end of the tube using glue.
- Fold a chart to make a cone. Place the cone at the open end of the tube and tape it.
- Cover the entire tube with aluminium foil.
- On the red and yellow coloured papers, draw and cut out the flames.
- Use glue and paste the flame at the closed end of the cardboard tube. The rocket jet is ready
- In a same manner, make another rocket jet.
- On a thick sheet of cardboard, draw and cut out four slits at the corners.
- Insert a ribbon through the slits on the cardboard.
- Tie the ribbon or tape it.
- Stick the two rocket jets on the cardboard.
Your rocket jet pack is now ready!
Alternatively, you may use recycled bottles in place of the cardboard tubes. Encourage your child to pretend play that they are flying in space!
As your child creates the jet pack, they exercise their coordination and fine motor skills. How about introducing your them to how astronauts fly to outer space?
